The new Maple Ridge (or even the new Surrey)?

Is Burnaby falling apart? In the last few days alone there have been incidents involving dognapping and a fake ransom note.

These unusual incidents are not the everyday happenings of Burnaby. Will these problems lead to someone trying to run for mayor yet again on a law and order agenda?

To the Max

The Burnaby-Douglas Tories are celebrating summer with a fundraiser with Industry Minister Maxime Bernier in a week and a half. (Will Burnaby business boss Darren Entwistle pony up for the event?)
This event comes fast on the heels of third-time Liberal candidate Billy Cunningham's fundraiser with Gerard Kennedy. The event was held down south in Burnaby-New Westminster at Burnaby Village Museum and one skeptical Liberal commented that it was an appropriate venue given it has a carosel that just goes round-and-round in circles.

All aboard!

Three become one with the amalgamation plan of the Port of Vancouver, Fraser Port and North Fraser Port.

This unified jurisdiction should help B.C. better compete for Asian trade with the west coast ports of the U.S.

William III

Third time candidate Billy Cunningham is parlaying his $12,500 from the Dion leadership campaign into further fundraising success. Friday of next week, former Ontario MPP, Liberal cult hero, and fellow candidate for MP Gerard Kennedy is in Burnaby to help Cunningham bring in some cash for his battle against Bill Siksay.

Cunningham's event is at Burnaby Village Museum, but there is no word yet on when an election will be held so that Cunningham can attempt to make Siksay's time as MP history.

Municipal workers

Reports are municipal workers have voted 93-percent in favour of strike action in Burnaby. If a strike takes place things could get interesting as residents see services reduced or shut down. For what's at stake check out FairnessforCivicWorkers.ca.
