Liquor and Porn

The Burnaby Now has an interesting letter whose subject should draw some new Google searches to Burnaby Politics.

The Queen's Birthday

Today's festivities at Burnaby Village Museum in honour of Victoria Day were well attended by the who's who of Burnaby politics.

One down. Three to go.

A year ago, the BC Liberals returned a reduced majority to Victoria. The NDP picked up many seats, including one in Burnaby.

Now it is time for your say. How have they done one year on?

Your Burnaby MLAs are:

Burnaby-Edmonds - Raj Chouhan, NDP
Burnaby North - Richard T. Lee, BC Liberals
Burnaby-Willingdon - John Nuraney, BC Liberals
Burquitlam - Harry Bloy, BC Liberals

And how have the BC Liberals done having made it half way into a "golden decade?"

Express straight to the top

Congratulations to Burnaby's BCHL team, the Burnaby Express, who now can add Royal Bank Cup champions to their earlier Page and Doyle Cup titles. The Express crushed the SJHL's Yorkton Terriers 8-2 on the weekend.

It is good to see after Burnaby lost the Bulldogs a few years back to the Island. Just remember to support the team during the 2006-2007 season so that Burnaby can again watch its hometown team win it all on TSN.

The Derek, Gateway, and How Not to Win South of the Fraser

Langley Politics is providing some analysis of Derek Corrigan's criticism of the Gateway Project and the Transportation Minister's failure to consult him.

Derek Corrigan would be an improvement over what the NDP has now. He would at least bring an end to the Pax Columbia -- catchy is it not? -- that Vaughn Palmer is suggesting has broken out in the Garden City.

Mowing down the lawn

At worst, mowing the lawn might cost you a toe. Now we have a new problem with mowing the lawn: impatient Parker Street gun owners.

Despite the danger, the RCMP's comment was top notch. According to News 1130, "last they heard, the yard is still messy."

A couple of bad ideas

Burnaby Ideas and Coquitlam Ideas are back up after the little scandal with Coquitlam First not making an election filing a couple months back.

Please send them your ideas to clean up City Hall in both cities and give the folks like Richard Stewart and the "TEAM 3 Plus 2" some policy to run on in 2008.

Blogs, blogs, blogs, blogs

Unlike a blog mentioned in the last post, these two newer blogs did not spam the comments section of dozens of B.C.-based political blogs. Joining the local muckraking family of Langley, Burnaby, North Vancouver, and Kelowna Politics and Nanaimo beat are a couple of new blogs: Vernon Blog and Vancouver Politics.

Happy timewasting, folks.

Working like a dog

A reader forwarded this story from John Nuraney's MLA website about the year of the working dog. Maybe our provincial government is working like dogs. If the NDP are ever let back in power they might try to unionize the MLAs so they no longer have to work like dogs.

Or possibly, we're barking up the wrong tree with this unfunny joke. That's what reading the pro-BC Liberal polyamorous B.C. political blog that loses no love for Jinny Sims and Carole James does to you.
