Not everyone has turned their mind away from school

As the kids enjoy another week before a return to class, former District PAC head Brian Joe laments the lack of attention paid to school trustees.

Would giving power over schools to city councils make a difference? Would having a more engaged school board help?

Giving school responsibilities to council would be a very stupid idea.

The School Trustees need to reach out to the public to get the public more involved in public education.

A little local media coverage of what these people do might help.

I did a search for the word trustee on the Burnaby Now and Burnaby Newsleader at the Canada Newsstand webserver, a free service offered through the public library.

For the past three months, that rare word has been cited a combined total of FOUR times in these two local papers.

The bureaucrats get much more coverage.

Very true. The Trustees don't advertise their existence except during civic elections.

Someone needs to write on the blackboard 100 times:

"School Trustees need to be seen"

New Westminster is doing a pretty good job of it.

Should have gotten the funds together and buy the sod the Radio Shack Trash 80.

Maybe be nice to him and add in an external floppy drive for those 5 1/4" discs he needs to store his email in. And a 2400 baud external modem.

Getting rid of the School Board would probably not be a bad idea as the councilors are just as qualified to run the school board and save the city money.

After all they run the parks and do a decent job at it.

The Council does not run the parks per se.

Also it would not be a good idea to have Council run the school board.

If you think it is a good idea, take it to council at one of those public presenter sessions and see what kind of reaction you get.
