Burnaby-Douglas and Burnaby-New Westminster NDP associations are ready for their Quebec City policy conference next month. Between the two ridings held by MPs Bill Siksay and Peter Julian the associations have a plethora of policy proposals.

From NAFTA to undocumented workers, from disabilities to support for the transgendered, from Olympics to autism funding, the NDP has plenty of Burnaby-based policy to vote on at convention. Airline crew numbers is put forward in one resolution, while the elimination of citizenship fees appears in another. Balanced budgets get covered by the Burnaby crowd as well. (Maybe the federal NDP are different than the Glen Clark crowd.) Refugee protection and omnibus motions on prosperity and democratic reform issues also come out of Burnaby NDP associations.

The Ottawa Vanier NDP association cites Julian's M-42 10-percent ethanol bill in one of their policies.

Warawa in, Redmond out, Rakhra undecided

The Burnaby Now reports on the Burnaby-New Westminster Conservatives nomination hopefuls for the next election.

Ryan Warawa, as reported here last week, is the only confirmed entrant, while 2004 candidate Mike Redmond is out. Sam Rakhra, a previous nomination candidate, is not yet committed. No word yet on 2006 candidate Marc Dalton taking a second kick at the can.

The Ultimate Warawarrior?

Ryan Warawa, son of Langley MP Mark Warawa, appears to be taking a run at the Burnaby-New Westminster nomination for his father's party.

Maybe the will be more successful than old man Martin and his boy were... or maybe not.

Liberal candidate wanted

Two-time former Liberal candidate Mary Pynenburg is off to Kelowna, leaving a vacancy for next election in Burnaby-New Westminster.

Former Conservative candidate Mike Redmond commented in the article on Pynenburg's chances if she ran for the Liberals in Kelowna. No word from Peter Julian on what Liberal he hopes to beat next.

Jack of all Burnaby

NDP leader Jack Layton's visit to Robert Burnaby Park (what a wonderfully named park, by the way) over in Burnaby-New Westminster was covered in the mid-week Burnaby press. The event was put on to thank volunteers for Dawn Black, Peter Julian, and Bill Siksay.

Campbell and Dim Sum

The BC Liberals are organizing an event in Burnaby for the Chinese community, natural supporters of the BC Liberals, in early autumn.. The event is a dim sum event at a south Burnaby Chinese restaurant where Premier Gordon Campbell can interact with Burnaby's sizable Chinese-Canadian community, a group the party needs to wipe the NDP off the map in the Lower Mainland. Chinese outreach party organizer Pato Chan, who is also an advisor to new Vancouver-Kingsway federal Liberal nominee Wendy Yuan, is spearheading the effort for the four Burnaby Liberal riding associations.

Belinda at Burnaby Board of Trade

Public Eye Online is reporting that Liberal MP Belinda Stronach will address the Burnaby Board of Trade on Friday, August 25 at a luncheon. The event is not yet listed on the board's events page. Stronach is in the Lower Mainland that week to attend the Liberals' national caucus retreat in Vancouver.
