The candidates

The civic candidates are off and running for November 15. Andrew Chisholm and TEAM Burnaby seek to overtake Derek Corrigan and the BCA - Burnaby Citizens while three Independent Voices shout to be heard.

Of the independents, council candidates Parvin Chami and former mayoral candidate Tom Tao are back and school trustee Helen Chang takes a run without a team. Ismet Yetisen appears to have written off winning Burnaby-New Westminster as a Libertarian and is seeking a council spot. Jim Ervin, Tod Fraser and Steve Zeswick also are running for council. Lotus Chung is running for school board.

Let the mudslinging begin.

Hey, how come no mention of Begin, Evans and Spitz? They're running too.

Jim Ervin is a cranky old man who runs every election and chokes.

Mayor Corrigan's re-election is all but guaranteed. Of course a surprise would be nice, (and not so nice for Mrs. Corrigan, of course).

But the more interesting battle is between Evans and Rankin. I personally believe that the IV's team has a core group of voters that will be able to carry them back to the council. TB after this election should have another leadership contest coming up and I do not see all these former board members running for city council ever in power any time soon.

Team Burnaby exploded steam like a badly over-cooked cooked turkey that went "powfff" when poked with the fork.

Corrigan will lead a split council made up of:

3 BCA
3 Team
2 IV

And he will do a TERRIBLE job as mayor of a minority council.

Well that's what Burnaby ends up with when Team Burnaby screws up on its own with bad management, and power hungry people.

Don't blame Corrigan or the BCA for what happens.

With two NDP MP's re-elected, the NDP isn't going to put away the lists for long.

Wait a week and they'll be back at it.

Jim Ervin is not a cranky old man. He is down to earth and speaks the truth. Atleast he recognizes problems along with their solutions.
Just because he is an independent, does not mean he does not have a voice. Being connected with a party does not guarantee success or teamwork for that matter.
Something to think about when voting for city council.
