Burnaby's Next Top Candidate

Mike Summers of the Refederation Party is looking for a few good candidates in Burnaby, on Craigslist.

The Refederation Party, with its Less Ottawa - More BC slogan, wants to give more power to the west in general and British Columbia in particular. They want direct democracy and a B.C. constitution. Last election they ran four candidates. This time the fringe party want at least three candidates in Burnaby.

Wow, with all these fringe parties, BCNDP will probably never return to power.

Power to the people!!

What about the BC Liberals? Some of these fringe parties eat into the BC Liberal support.

Quite a few people can't stand Gordon Campbell.

A premier who has violated his own principles.

Maybe, parties such as Christian Heritage Party provincial chapter maybe. But votes for these parties such as Pot Party are largely protest votes rarely ideological.

The more democratic the system gets, the harder it will be for ideological parties such as BCNDP to return to power however. Concentrating the support on union activists, teachers union in Burnaby particularly, has marginalized the part which may put BCNDP in opposition in perpetuity.

It's a thinly veiled attempt at BC separation.

They want to:
a) abolish the Lt Gov.,
b) give an 'optional veto over all legislation' (WTF?), and
c) renegotiate provincial rights which have been
"usurped illegally"!!!!

Clearly, all they really need is valium.

If that.

All those things that they want will require a referedum, and many many changes to legislation, etc.

Just another fringe party for the kook element to hang out in between Canucks home games.

Apparently this "American Idol" style of recruiting candidates in Burnaby has caught up the eyes of our local reporter.

Apparently, BCNDP is not the only party that holds monopoly on opposition. Good ideas nonetheless from this fringe party, citizen vetoing, what's fun in politics if not for the chaos.

News for you. There has been other opposition parties since political parties started to exist in B.C.

One of the longest semi-major opposition parties in B.C. was
the BC Liberal Party.

Citizen vetoing is a stupid idea since exactly how would this work? Another referendum to rescind legislation? You'd have a referendum about every two weeks
during the times when the House sits. You'd have both the NDP and the BC Liberals spending money defending their respective positions.

This concept is not very well thought out, but they are a bottom of the barrel fringe party.

I'd vote for the Sex Party over that fringe party. At least with the Sex party, there would lots of fun.

Read the quote in the Now.
"We've patterned what we want to give the people after what they do in Switzerland," Summers said.

Switzerland refused to allow women to vote until 1971.

ha ha ha ha ha

It's a good idea if you don't think about it, I guess.

Well, this isn't Switzerland. The Swiss have a system which they have used for decades.

The Swiss also have tolls on their multi-lane highways in the form of a citizen required road fee decal which is paid for annually. Use of the two lane highways is not subject to a user road fee.

The Swiss have a much nicer looking country than we do.

"News for you. There has been other opposition parties since political parties started to exist in B.C."

Actually that is no news to anyone. It is only news to Carole James who always loves to claim that she should be the "only" alternative to the BCLIB. Can Carole James take this "American Idol" style of recruiting process instead of imposing "quotas" or incumbency on nomination so called races. None of the candidates currently in Burnaby at least looks any bit like an idol that is for sure.

But back to the point, I love chaos. NDP has been in power in Burnaby for way too long, given the present longest socialist government in power at city hall. Talk about NDP bashing, my friends, I guess BCLIB does not hold monopoly on that front either.

Well not much difference than Gordon Campbell stating after his leadership "win" in 1995 that he and his party should be the "only" alternative to the NDP.

Can Carole James take this "American Idol" style of recruiting process instead of imposing "quotas" or incumbency on nomination so called races.

Well can Gordon Campbell's puppet
Party Executive Director start doing things smartly and not get into protecting so-called star candidates from actually being contested in a nomination meeting?

None of the candidates currently in Burnaby at least looks any bit like an idol that is for sure.

Look at Harry Bloy. Look at John Nurnaey. They certainly would not win any talent contest, and dear gawd don't even think of a swimsuit competition with them in it.

But back to the point, I love chaos.

You've never seen it.

NDP has been in power in Burnaby for way too long, given the present longest socialist government in power at city hall.

(a) The civic government is not
socialist. There's no 'socialist'
ideaology that can be applied to civic politics. We been through that before.

(b) One of the major reasons why the BCA got in in large numbers is because Team Burnaby was making more power plays than the Oilers did with Wayne Gretzky in a Stanley Cup final.

Talk about NDP bashing, my friends, I guess BCLIB does not hold monopoly on that front either.

They don;t. The BC Liberals have alot they can improve on. So does the NDP, but the BC Liberals more so with their trademark arrogance and tendency to attract abysmal talent when it comes to organizing campaigns in Burnaby.

The BC Refederation Party are not separatist. If you take the time to read their website www.refedbc.com their goal is a unified Canada but with the people controlling the politicians not the reverse as is currently the case.

Since it was the provinces that created the Federal Government then it must be the provinces that changes and takes control of the federal government.

They [Refed] have a 100 day plan to give the people of BC a constitution (something that BC does not currently have. What we currently have is a constitution act created, Yup! by politicians telling us how it's going to be, how much it's going to cost, and how deep to dig into our pockets).

You are right we are not in Switzerland. However, the BC Refederation Party constitution is "based" on the Swiss model (Not exactly the Swiss model) but geared to BC and Canada after eight years of legal and common law research into constitutional matters. Much like computers are "based" on the ideas of pioneers like Charles Babbage 1791.

Our current system allows us to vote and then bitch for four years while our politicians make their statutes and legislation that in many cases are completely detrimental to us (can you say Fast Ferries?) and the province the T.I.L.M.A agreement would be an excellent example. See the movie "You Me and the SPP"

Having the power to stop ridiculous, expensive and potentially harmful legislation four times each year whilst a party (ANY party) is in office has to be an advantage over our current system and hey if i'm a kook for wanting to control my elected government then hey I will put it on my business card.

This country and this province [BC] is systematically and methodically being dismantled and sold. Our hydro is being purchased back at a cost higher than we are producing it for. Our water is being targeted for the US, and we and our future generations are the losers.

The BC Refederation Party are proposing Direct Democracy. Under our current system one man, and a bunch of Corporations (US and Canadian) telling 3,907,738 people how it's going to be is not Democracy.

Here are a couple of examples of Direct Democracy in action:

1) Swiss Rape victims mother exercises her Direct Democracy power
http://www.iht.com/articles/2004/02/10/a4_4.php

2 . Every nation has been hit by the economic rip off perpetrated by the banking cartel.
What are U.S, U.K. and Canadian citizens doing about it?

They are PAYING for it!

Here is how the citizens of Switzerland are dealing with it under their Direct Democracy system of government

Check out the reality of why you our Province and our nation are in debt.
