Coming up roses

Burquitlam MLA Harry Bloy is having Wine and Roses 2007, his annual fundraiser this coming Wednesday. To the credit of the Burquitlam Liberals, Bloy's fundraisers are among the best political shindigs in the area - not to mention the most regular and consistent at raising money to stop the "socialist hordes" of free-enterprise lore.

Bloy is very good at raising money. Probably best MLA in Burnaby or Coquitlam.

He is after power and influence pure and simple.

If someone says Bloy is the best MLA in Burnaby, what does that say about the quality of the other MLA's?

That they are of lower quality than Bloy? Bloy isn't exactly the first pick off the shelf in the store either.

Harry sure knows how to party!

Mac Perry caught him at one of those glitzy Playboy parties a few years back.

And does anybody remember Harry's great porno mag controversy from the late 80s?

Yee haw. Maybe wine and roses are just a good cover story.

Playboy? Porno? Tell us more. Is that why he had the pony tail a few years ago.

Harry? Porno?

Phuleez, even the most hardened
person couldn't take thinking of Harry amongst the girls at a Playboy party. It's enough to make one barf.

I'll bet the girls made sure they steam cleaned themselves after he left.

wow Robert Burnaby used the word "shindig"! i never knew he was soooooo kewl!

but - and i'm not saying this as a partisan naysayer against any party - how often do people associate the word "Bloy" and the word... "shindig"?

just a though.

Not many. This event of Harry's is
just basically:

"Come to my fundraiser to give money to me so I can keep my job after the next election and in return, I'll invite you to a car
dealership featuring over hyped cars for grog and red flowers
and you can see me with people who think of me as worthy to keep my
easy job."

The Harry porno controversy was all the rage in the Burnaby NOW during the mid to late 80s. At the time, our current Deputy Speaker of the House was a corner store owner and operator - among his several enterprises was the now-closed Pete's Market at Sperling near Halifax - where neighbours complained that Playboy Penthouse and other skin mags were kept at eye level to children.

Harry didnt understand what all the fuss was about, at first, but relented after there were several critical letters to then-editor Dee Fitton. (Who seemed to be more in touch with the electorate than the current chief maven of the local press, who seems more intent on promoting the work of her old friend Lee Rankin.)

It's all on microfiche at the Burnaby Public Library - Robert Prittie branch.

Old news.

"At the time, our current Deputy Speaker of the House"

He's not Deputy Speaker of the House. He's Deputy Chair of
Committee of the Whole. He's still
at the "back of the bus" in the House.

Sindi Hawkins of Kelowna is Deputy Speaker. The next step down is Assistant Deputy Speaker held by Sue Hammel (NDP) of Surrey.

Below that is Deputy Chair, Committee of the Whole, which is
Harry Bloy.

Oh gawd, think of the children!
Will somebody please think of the children!

and to think this guy is supposed to be a Scout Leader.

He's not exactly an example of
good sportsmanship or leadership.

Everyone is a friend of Lee Rankin.
Lee sees all, knows all.

Go to the other side of the library and sign out a copy of a
repair manual for your car. Much
better reading.
