Low and behold

It has been 35 years since a Liberal has been elected MP in north Burnaby. Ken Low, the Liberal candidate in Vancouver East last time, may be the candidate who will end that losing streak.

Low, a civil engineer who immigrated from Hong Kong, is being talked up in Liberal circles as their next candidate in Burnaby-Douglas. Low finished a distant second to the NDP's Libby Davies last October. Bill Cunningham lost as the Burnaby-Douglas Liberal candidate in 2004, 2006 and 2008 to New Democrat Bill Siksay.

The Liberals dropped into third place in Burnaby-Douglas last election, in part due to the unpopularity of then leader Stephane Dion with B.C. voters. Michael Ignatieff, who has already made several visits to the west coast, will likely strengthen the Liberal brand in the province. Last time, less than one in five British Columbian voters cast their ballot for the local Liberal candidate.

If that happens it will be intereting. Two Chinese-Cdns competing for the same vote (Ronald Leung of the Conservatives, the other).

May put to rest the nauseating diatribes put forth by Leung's supporters last time.

And much bigger, this would finally put an end to Bill Cunningham's wanting to the candidate.

Three tries and Bill Cunningham would be annointed as the candidate again?

The Liberals must be insane if they let that happen again.

Leung vs. Low?

Let the competition begin..

What were these diatribes you are speaking about? I thought his problems were that firstly, he took the non chinese vote for granted and secondly, he did very little prep work before the election. He'll face the same two problems this time.

There was some idiot who figured Leung was a shoo-in for Cabinet if he won the seat.

The same fool kept goin' on about the so-called "Asian vote" which is in itself discriminatory against those who aren't Asian. But he was referencing those who are bananna, rather than those who are chocolate or vanilla.

Neither of the reasons you mention could be called a diatribe.

Sure was, it's just a matter of presentation. The guy was going on for weeks during the federal election.

Completely missed the basic concept of election. To represent all citizens no matter what ethnicity for the party of choice.

I think Bill Cunningham should be the Liberal nominee once again. I mean he's a veteran campaigner. (I know, he lost 3 elections but at some point he should get it right. Then again...) He's, well no doubt he's now affixed to Iggy's backside. But wait, wasn't he affixed to Dion's backside too? And I think that the Cons need to drag Georgey D. of the jungle back too.

Seriously though, Bill's the man. Who could forget his constituency office on Hastings St. Even though he wasn't the MP. Bill simply is "Da Man." His campaign motto should be...

"If I don't win the fourth time, I vow not to run the 5th time... for now. Subject to Change."

"think Bill Cunningham should be the Liberal nominee once again."

What the heck for? He's lost three times.

I mean he's a veteran campaigner. (I know, he lost 3 elections but at some point he should get it right. Then again...)

There's a time when it's better just to not waste anyone's time and
move on.

"He's, well no doubt he's now affixed to Iggy's backside."

Is he into that sort of thing?

Thought the guy was married. Is he AC-DC?

"But wait, wasn't he affixed to Dion's backside too? And I think that the Cons need to drag Georgey D. of the jungle back too. "

Yeah right, funny guy. Learn a few basics in politics.

"Seriously though, Bill's the man. Who could forget his constituency office on Hastings St."

Yeah right. And I gather the financial agent in his riding association or campaign would rather forget payin' for it.

Even though he wasn't the MP. Bill simply is "Da Man." His campaign motto should be...

"If I don't win the fourth time, I vow not to run the 5th time... for now. Subject to Change

Why have him start a "Had Enough Yet?" poster with his picture just below that line.

Bill said he wasn't gonna run, but his website IS still active.

What kind of nefarious evil Liberal plot is that?

Either that, or the NDP has nothing better to do than to fight ghosts.

The riding NEEDS Bill Cunningham as its Liberal candidate. No one is more experienced. And what the hell, if you can run 3 times and lose each time, whats a 4th or a 5th kick at the can. Does anyone still believe in destiny?

In terms of Bill's website, I think it goes back to my "subject to change" comment. He's just covering all his bases, in case Iggy comes along like Santa Claus and taps him on the shoulder. Its weird though, the Conservatives eat their losers, though I guess Georgie D. did have 2 kicks at it as well. But in general, if you lose, you're out. Look at poor Paul Forseth in New West, Coquitlam. They skewered him while he was out of the country to make sure he couldn't run.

Then to pour salt in the wound, they installed the latest Conservative also ran, Yonah "thank you" Martin as senator.

Let me see if I get this straight, a 3 term MP, loses his seat, and yet an also ran newbie, gets the senatorship over a person who's loyal to a fault to the Conservatives? Guess being a faithful follower of Harper doesn't cut the mustard over and above someone who only says "thank you" no matter what the situation.

"Hey Yonah, whats it like to be the 6.3 million dollar servant to Harper"

Yonah: "thank you thank you thank you. Steve told me I had to say thank you for every dollar he's spending on me. thank you thank you. Only 6 million, 295 thousand more thank yous and I'm home free. Thank you Thank You."

As a member of parliament, I am sure he knows how to butt into the front of the line, just like all the rest of them.

Since it is made of stainless steel, you can just easily wipe the exterior of the machine using a cleaning cloth. Reliability and long life usually come at a price, and if you want a home espresso machine that will grow old with you, be prepared to pay a hefty cost for one. One of many factors in choosing any fireplace accessories is the capacity to blend well with the rest of your property decors.
