The BCA just never quits its attack on TEAM

Sav Dhaliwal of the Burnaby Citizens' Association overtook Barbara Spitz of TEAM Burnaby for the final spot on Burnaby city council in a recount, winning by three votes. The reevaluation of the ballots shifted the count a four votes to Dhaliwal's benefit. Dhaliwal finished with 13,403 votes and Spitz finished with 13,400 votes.

One of TEAM Burnaby's most experienced candidates, Spitz supposedly lost ground on the advanced poll, which on one count saw Dhaliwal gain significantly while Spitz's count did not increase.

Burnaby council now stands at three TEAM councilors and five BCA councilors plus BCA mayor Derek Corrigan.

How could the ballot machines be off so much. Were they fed in wrong. I thought these things were bulletproof.

It's a pity that both Sav Dhaliwal and Barbara Spitz couldn't get elected, but a blowhard like Lee Rankin could.

The machines worked perfectly
It was the darn voters who didn't follow instructions.

The bulk of the problems were caused by voters using Blue Ink (instead of the machine-compatible Black Ink pens) and Not Drawing a Complete Line between the two arrowheads.

The only solutions I can see are to either
a) massively increase the education budget, (and hope people learn to follow instructions) or
b) stop letting people vote.

I suspect it will be easier to stop people from voting! Canadians seem to have a natural disposiation towards not voting. And it sure would be a lot more cost effective.

some of us regret not having voted, either we forgot to vote or we had other engagements, work, or not wanting to be inconvenienced by going out of our way or, taking the time to go to the correct voting place. Now w'll have to pay for it for the next 3 years.

Some of us were stupid to vote for
those Team Burnaby candidates which were abysmal. The best quality candidates made it through, but one didn't.

For the next three years, Burnaby people, not the interests of civic parties tied to provincial parties matter most.
