Billy Cunningham, take four
The Burnaby-Douglas Liberals are picking their candidate on Saturday.
Bill Cunningham, who stood for the Liberals in 2004, 2006 and 2008, is not expected to be in the running.

Why dont they have it at a proper hall and just send out for Chinese.
Oh, let me guess!
It ain't gonna be Derek Corrigan, right!
Thank gawd it isn't Billy Boy.
Twice was enough for that guy, but three times??
Isn't it Ken Low from East Van?
That's the guy.
Ken Low is not FROM East Van. He just ran there in the last election.
That's OK Siksay lived in Vancouver East for a long time after being elected.
But Siskay was Svend's Constituency Assistant so he got to know North Burnaby quite well.
Siskay will win once again.
Very dififcult to unseat an incumbent.
OK, I give?
Where's Bill Cunningham in all this and why is his name in the headline?
Probably because the Blog Guy is a close friend of Bill Cunningham, or the Blog Guy got approved for a big loan from Cunningham when Bill
was at the TD Bank at Willingdon and Lougheed.
But Siskay was Svend's Constituency Assistant so he got to know North Burnaby quite well.

------------------
I hope Siksay is as cocky as you are.
Actually I think Siksay and Svend are both very cocky
ewww
Svend was able to rectify that problem though.
He was, but still the Conservatives and the federal Liberals are still bummed out about having Siskay as MP.
When the election comes, Siskay and his campaign will get his rear in gear.
No butts about that.
The coronation of Ken Low as the Liberal candidate for Burnaby-Douglas has taken place. Low combines the best qualities of Bill Cunningham and Ronald Leung, two candidates Bill Siksay only barely defeated in previous elections. If I were Bill Siksay and his NDP team, I'd be very worried.
If I were Siskay and his NDP team, I'd say:
"Dinner is served.."
"Dinner" as in a Shishkabob of Siskay?
Nope. Siskay and crew just received a delicable dinner of Chinese this time around. They'll
be given a second helping of Chinese too.
Nice change from the rather large Roast Beast they had last time. Had
a bit of fat in it.
But they it was rather tender but delicious.
Siskay and crew are at the table.
Let the feast begin.
Bill Siksay has to be careful. All that MSG may be hazzardous to his political health.
Low might have a chance to take some Siksay support away and who knows maybe win. NDP support in Burnaby is a lot weaker than it was historically.
Siksay really hasnt done much outstanding stuff for Burnaby as a whole. Unless you count wanting transsexual surgery covered by the government. Not a large concern in his riding. Especially not in the Chinese community.
Well here we go again. The speculating. Was this done last year?
Again, the Chinese community is only one part of the whole riding.
As for the MSG, can be true, but eating alot of fat can be hazardous
too. The NDP campaign had a rather fat Liberal to get through last time and the time before that.
This will be interesting. Two Chinese candidates going after essentially the same community and therefore splitting the vote.
Ronald Leung hasn't been officially
named as the candidate, but he probably will be.
Besides anyone who is smart that has followed politics, knows that the ethnic communities do not all vote the same way 100%.
For anyone who things an ethnic community "belongs" to one specific party or another, they are out of their mind.
The Greens could still play spoiler.
Maybe they'll bring back Stephen Harper, the personal trainer who moved to England????
The only thing that could be spoiled in Burnaby Douglas is green lettuce for the feast.
lettuce, drowned in oil?
yum yum - sounds like a coalition of a different kind
Not a coalition. A salad.
A nice start to a meal of Chinese
dinner.
I hope Ken Low shows up to all candidates meetings this time unlike his time in Vancouver East. I guess he was muzzled, I look for him to be Muzzle Watch - Ignatieffrocracy
Would like to see Low at the real all candidates meeting at the infamous Capital Hill Hall.
He should be invited there.
As dinner.
I saw some earlier comments that seem to have have unacceptable overtones about certain candidates, past or present, and think an apolgy is in order. We don't appreciate those kinds of innyurendos on this discussion blog. Please keep such tongue-in-cheeks to yourselves and refrain from continued low-blows. Thank you.

----------------------
The AC at the Capital Hill hall is a joke. It used to be kind of funny but is now a waste of time to attend. As a matter of fact I would find it a waste of time if I was a candidate and probably wouldnt attend it. It's basically a bunch of loud supporters of all parties trying to yell each other down. AC Meetings are for the public to attend and find out where the candidates stand not who has the loudest Koolaid drinkers.
To make matters even worse they give all candidates equal time which means if you want to know where the top three candidates stand you have to listen to people who are running with no intention of winning bloviate and take up debate time from the serious candidates.
Definitely a waste of time.
Doesn't make sense. What's wrong with equal time amongst all of the candidates? Fair is fair.
If you want a venue with privilege and see special treatments go to a federal Liberal fundraiser featuring Mobina Jaffer as the fearured entertainment.
I have to agree. 90-95 percent of the vote goes towards the top three candidates.
In this day and age of people's time being taxed immensely if you attend one of these meetings you want as much focus on the ideas of parties and candidates who have a chance of winning rather than fringe candidates like independents or the Communist Party who are just running out of ego or fringe philosophy. Maybe they should get as much time as the percentage of vote they got last time around.
I find provincial All Candidates Meetings are even worse than federal.
Everyone gets 15 minutes each. Doesn't matter if they are the candidate from the Conservatives, Liberals, NDP, Green, Natural Law or Sex Party.
If you don't want to hear what they have to say, go outside and have a smoke.
You went to the meeting as an optinal thing to do, you weren't required to be there.
If you want to find out in detail what your chosen candidates have to say, go to the campaign office.
Not sure about the logic here if people have to go to campaign offices to get details then why waste time having an AC Meeting.
Going back a few posts this might be why candidates should consider strongly whether they want to attend these things or not.
Several reasons
People go to support the candidate. Others go because it is convenient.
People go to trash a candidate or party they don't like.
Candidates go because they love to talk about themsevles.
if there are only the "big three" candidates entitled to talk, why bother?
Many candidates don't go to those things, such as federal Liberals and Conservatives because they are out knocking on doors.
But if there's amajor message to get out the AC is a good way to do that.
Besides it's good practice for when and if they win.
Heck don't have to go to campaign offices to get details. Much of that junk is available on their website.
But AC meetings give the chance to see and smell the candidate.
Ken Low is Low.
The guy wouldn't even show his face at a single All Candidates Debate in Vancouver East in 2008.
Low finished with the Lowest amount of votes for any Liberal in Vancouver East since 1965.
How Low will Low go in the next election?
Ken Low got a higher percentage of the popular vote in Van East than Larry Genoski did in Burnaby.
Who cares what the Liberal result in Burnaby - New Westminster was in 2008.
When it comes to Low Low, you should be looking at his last riding of Vancouver East, and his new riding of Burnaby Douglas.
The fact remains that Low Low had the Lowest Liberal result in Vancouver East in well over 40 years.
How much Lower will Low Low take the Burnaby Douglas Liberals in the next election?
This might be a hew high in low.
Liberals yet again parachute a candidate in Burnaby. They continue to be out of touch. With a weak Libearal candiate Mr. Siksay must be worried. Conservatives were close last time and if they run the same candidate again building on his name recognition they will take the riding this time.
if there are only the "big three" candidates entitled to talk, why bother?
-----------------------------
Maybe because over 90% of voters consistently vote for the big 3.
Voters deserve to know where their candidates really live, not just an 'address of convenience' - which is a tool used by ALL PARTIES.
Voters can easily find out where the candidates' residences are, as it is reported by Elections Canada.
Speaking of low blows, it sounds like
Low Blows!
Good luck to you Mr. Low !
For what it is worth, Ken Low is much better looking than Bill Cunningham.
Cunningham was a new high in low.
But the Burnaby Douglas Liberals do have a low quality candidate.
Typo Alert!
What anonymous 9:20 am really meant to say was:
But the Burnaby Douglas Liberals do have Low, a quality candidate!
No, he said Burnaby Douglas has a low quality candidate, as in degree of quality in terms of whether it is good or not good.
In other words Burnaby Douglas has a 1st degree Liberal candidate in Ken Low.
Low blows who?
Low is a low quality (as in poor quality workmanship) candidate for the federal Liberals, who have had a bit of a tradition of obtaining low quality candidates since Iona Campagnolo ran a long time ago.
Lowest of the low quality candidates had to be Mobina Jaffer.
